Hi, I’m Ashley.

I’m Ashley Hamm (she/her) and I am a licensed professional counselor helping people like you create a joyful, meaningful life despite the impacts of high-control religion.

I can help you clarify what’s important to you, move through guilt and anxiety, and create the confident life you always wanted but never felt ready to pursue. At my online practice specializing in religious trauma therapy and religious deconstruction, we can work together in a confidential space to build clarity and identify your next steps.

Religious trauma therapy is right for you if you want to:

  • Take ownership over your own life’s goals, even if you struggle to break away from the expectations of others
  • Speak up and set boundaries with family despite years of conditioning to stay silent and go with the group
  • Move past the fears that were indoctrinated into you through sermons on eternal damnation and purity culture
  • Imagine all possibilities for your religious and spiritual future, including the option of being non-religious

I offer online therapy over video to residents in Texas and in person in my Houston, Texas office.  Schedule an introductory call if you’re ready to get started:

All of you is welcome here.

Certain topics were probably off limits in your family or religious community – but not here.

Many high control religions emphasize rigid adherence to standards and rules that are harmful to your mental health.  You may have felt pressure to look a certain way, pursue a certain type of relationship, or deny your sexual feelings and preferences.

These rigid rules are often rooted in homophobia, fatphobia, misogyny, racism, and more – harmful systems that if turned inward can create a lot of pain.  We will work together to unlearn these harmful beliefs and help you embrace who you are under the pressure to conform and suppress.

Our work together will be:

  • LGBTQIA+ affirming
  • Intersectional feminist
  • Neurodiversity affirming
  • Anti-hustle culture
  • Affirming of all body sizes
  • Honoring of climate grief and anxiety
