Hi, I’m Ashley.

I’m Ashley Hamm (she/her) and I am a licensed professional counselor helping people like you create a joyful, meaningful life despite the impacts of high-control religion. I offer online therapy over video to residents in Texas.

Religious trauma therapy can help you:

  • Take ownership over your own life’s goals, even if you struggle to break away from the expectations of others
  • Speak up and set boundaries with family despite years of conditioning to stay silent and go with the group
  • Move past the fears that were indoctrinated into you through sermons on eternal damnation and purity culture
  • Imagine all possibilities for your religious and spiritual future, including the option of being non-religious

I can help you clarify what’s important to you, move through guilt and anxiety, and create the confident life you always wanted but never felt ready to pursue. At my online practice specializing in religious trauma therapy and religious deconstruction, we can work together in a confidential space to build clarity and identify your next steps.  Schedule an introductory call if you’re ready to get started:

Inclusive counseling that addresses systemic impacts on your well-being

Many high control religions teach beliefs that are harmful to your mental health and deny systemic inequality.  I can help you unlearn internalized homophobia, fatphobia, misogyny, and more so that you can fully embrace all of you. My compassionate approach gives you the space to grieve the harm that was done to you during your religious upbringing, so that you can move forward and build a joyful life built around your needs and identities.

Our work together will be:

  • LGBTQIA+ affirming
  • Intersectional feminist
  • Neurodiversity affirming
  • Anti-capitalist
  • Affirming of all body sizes
  • Honoring of climate grief and anxiety

This approach recognizes the stressful aspects of our modern world that impact your mental health. Naming this allows us to focus on how you can best care for yourself and live according to your values in spite of these oppressive impacts.  Through this work you can grow to set more boundaries with those around you who continue to hold onto harmful beliefs so that you can honor the parts of you that your religious community told you were wrong.
